Pasajes III
Pasajes III is a portrait of Jakarta. It is also a subtle, almost imperceptible intervention for the thousands of ‘extras’ entering the picture. Only the viewer will see the artist’s directing as an aesthetic and political act. The video successively shows the same person crossing a different street in the Indonesian metropolis of Jakarta.
These are streets that appear to be completely jammed with traffic. The work is thus an indictment of these congested metropolises and a dystopian portrait of a city where stationary traffic fills every street. This video also takes the viewer by the hand and walks them through the 21st-century city together with the white-T-shirted protagonist. Pasajes III was made in 2013 when the prognosis was that the slow-moving traffic would only worsen.
