Green Screen Gringo
Green Screen Gringo is a complex and multi-layered video. As a foreigner in São Paulo, Douwe Dijkstra clearly has the position of a stranger, or ‘gringo’. But this foreigner seeks out different places than the tourists. He observes with his camera, activates and involves people on the street, and thematises social inequality and current political events in São Paulo. But Dijkstra’s actions and ‘green screen’ interventions are also changing the public space, both in the city and especially in his studio, where worlds flourish, exist and mix at the same time.
Green Screen Gringo shows the harsh realities of urban life, the young people’s dreams for a better future and, the love of dance, music and life itself – stacked and layered and connected by the green screen.
