Jaywalking Frames
Jaywalking Frames shows images of people walking through a red light in different places around the world. Dries Depoorter ‘captured’ these people using unprotected surveillance cameras and custom software. For Street View, the still images are converted back into a slideshow capturing hundreds of different rule-breakers from all over the world. Nowhere in the city is the pedestrian unobserved.
Jaywalking Frames has changed medium especially for Street View. Depoorter has converted the framed photos (for sale for the price of the fine) into a slide show, and they are returned to public space during the exhibition. This gesture does not warn against crossing on a red light but shows that public space has many eyes and memories.
