Running Chocolate
For Street View, Jeroen Jongeleen presents two video works from his series ‘Running in Circles (Corona2)’. Running Chocolate and New Living are the only two videos in Street View made during and in response to the first lockdown in 2020. The artist uses a drone to film himself in public spaces bereft of people and places that were already empty: the ‘no-go’ spots in and around Rotterdam – desolate places where preserving public order is not needed.
A stationary drone records Jongeleen’s solo interventions, one of which lasts an hour and the other covers 100 kilometres. The artist temporarily transforms the public space through these physically intensive interventions. The eight-minute video is what remains visible of Jongeleen’s political action to continue using urban public areas freely under the increasing and regulatory influence of architecture and legislation.
