‘Sterne? Kopierter Staub.’
(Rotterdam / Wilhelminakade 701)
Dominique Teufen (1975, Switzerland) investigates the limits of the medium of photography by means of non-traditional techniques and processes. What appeals to her is the grey area that separates reality from illusion and which makes new realities appear. Teufen’s aim is to instigate a discussion about truth and image creation. With the work Sterne? Kopierter Staub. Teufen creates a world in black and white. First she copied materials such as paper, silk, instant coffee, and foil, then she photographed them, thus constructing fantastic landscapes in various shades of grey. This is Teufen’s way of outlining her trip across the globe to mysterious destinations like mountain tops, foaming surfs and remote coastal areas where no man has ever set foot – except for the artist in her mind’s space.
