In the heart of Weert, Viewmaster Projects presents Box Set, eight video works from the extensive oeuvre of British artist duo Wood & Harrison. It features works spanning the three-decade career of John Wood (1969) and Paul Harrison (1966). Pioneers of performance-based video art that combines theatricality with absurdism, their multilayered work is both humorous and thought-provoking. What appears simple, effortless and spontaneous is meticulously conceived and executed down to the last detail. The videos are fascinating to watch, with new connections continually emerging both within individual works and between those on display.

Almost all the videos in Box Set were recorded in the artists’ studio, where they construct U-shaped, three-walled ‘box sets’ (sometimes including a ceiling). In Weert, Wood & Harrison’s works are projected onto the large windows of temporarily vacant shops, which act as the ‘fourth wall’ of the artists’ sets. From the street, passers-by become voyeurs, watching the artists’ actions unfold through the glass.

Box Set includes four early classics from 1994 to 2003, centred on actions performed in an empty space, and three more recent works from 2011 to 2013 in which the space around the artists is also in a state of constant transition. The eighth and most recent video, dating from 2020, has been specially adapted for display on the two LED walls set into the golden façade of Museum W.

Binge-watch Box Set on an evening stroll along eight extraordinary video works.
