Tableaux des Fleur / Bouquets
Rechtstraat 30
In the diptych Tableaux des Fleur / Bouquets, Kim Boske offers a contemporary interpretation of the aesthetics of 17th- and 18th-
century botanical reference works. Inspired by their refined draftsmanship, intricate details, and luminous colours, she digitally interweaves these prints into a new, mesmerising whole.
Like the botanical illustrators of the past, who captured plants at different stages of growth, Boske explores the passage of time – not as a linear progression, but as a fluid, ever-shifting phenomenon. In her videos, images subtly glide over one another, dissolve, and reform, creating within a single composition a rhythm of bloom, decay, and renewal.
The result is a poetic transformation, where the crisp lines of the original prints dissolve into a delicate interplay of presence and absence. Boske conjures a dreamlike reality in which history and natural cycles merge-like the cadence of nature itself: in perpetual motion, yet endlessly returning.
