CAS Deep Portrait
Rechtstraat 61
CAS Deep Portrait by Egor Kraft is from his Content Aware Studies series of algorithm-generated sculptures. For Time Travellers, he has designed a site-responsive version that seamlessly integrates with the composition and proportions of two household windows. In this grayscale video installation, twelve classical busts hypnotically transform, their changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. They merge, distort, and evolve as if digitally sculpted, prompting deeper reflection on authenticity, originality, and digital reinterpretation. CAS Deep Portrait explores the concept of transmateriality, where technology and matter continuously shape each other. The sculptures emerge from the interplay between historical art and algorithms and dissolve the boundary between physical and digital materiality. The outcomes point to a hybrid, ever-shifting reality.
Kraft’s collision of past and future juxtaposes the symbolic timelessness of classical sculptures with the constantly rewritten reality of AI. In doing so, he raises fundamental questions about how we interpret history. Do we cling to traditional methods of understanding and inquiry? Or do we embrace a new paradigm in which knowledge is fluid and endlessly malleable, as seen in Kraft’s digital sculptures?
