Aled
Côme Lart, a young French media designer and video editor, created this entirely AI-generated music video for the song ‘Aled.’ by French rapper Luther. The title reverses the street-slang term ‘dela’, meaning ‘I am helpless’. This inversion is a distortion that aligns with the alienation and inner struggle voiced in the song and further amplified in the video. Côme Lart and Luther channel this energy into the digital realm, reaching a vast audience without needing to step into the streets.
The video plunges masked figures into a dreamlike sequence of night-time riots, large demonstrations, illicit rooftop and basement parties, hackathons and squatter occupations, all permeated with billowing smoke. The AI-generated imagery mimics the gaze of drones, the cold eye of surveillance cameras and the immediacy of live action. Côme Lart uses this technology to tap the vast online archive of demonstrations and activist subcultures, with their flags, flares, clothing, scarves, smoke bombs and collective unrest. Both recognisable and disorientating, some moments are so uncannily real that the work is as unsettling as it is captivating, recalling Juan Obando’s They / Them, also on view in this space.
