Erkörper (suns of temper)
(Rotterdam / Wilhelminakade 701)
For many artists the ‘landscape’ is a means to pursue notions of standstill, movement and time. This goes for Ben Pointeker (1975, Austria) too. The work Erdkörper is a hybrid work that positions itself in between film and photography. The artist isolate a scene from the virtual narrative and tries to detach is from what it shows or represents. As a result, the image becomes the actual actor in the scene. The landscapes do not refer to a specific location, but are meant to evoke a general sense of space. In Erdkörper (suns of temper) too film and photography are blended. In the work Pointeker focuses on the phenomenon of ‘time’. He calls up a tension that finds its roots in the various ways in which we experience the passing of time. On the one hand time is immense and on the other time is fleeting. Erdkörper took inspiration from the musical Suns of Temper by Chris Clark.
